5 May 2025

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2025 Kuennecke Fellowship in German! The Kuennecke Fellowship was established to promote immersion in and engagement with German-speaking cultures through study programs, internships, research, and other opportunities in German-speaking countries.

This year’s awards go to Katelyn Harder ’26, Ostap Hrebeniuk ’27, Duncan McArthur ’27, and Ella Shatz ’28.

Katelyn will be working with refugees in Halle, Germany, and will also prepare for her German comps by accessing research material on site. Duncan will be shadowing at a hospital in Mainz, Germany, in connection with his pre-med studies at Carleton and a possible desire to move to Germany as a doctor. He will also intern with the CBYX camp in Würzburg, Germany. Ostap will do an internship with an NGO in Vienna, Austria, that works with Ukrainian refugees to organize events and exhibitions. Ella will explore art education at various locations in Germany to use for her work in Studio Art here at Carleton.
