Congratulations to the recipients of the 2024 Kuennecke Fellowship! The Kuennecke Fellowship was established to promote immersion in and engagement with German-speaking cultures through study programs, internships, research, and other opportunities in German-speaking countries.
This year’s awards go to Ava Blaufuss ’26, Riley Gibson ’26, Rilke Grimlund ‘26, Ostap Hrebeniuk ’27, Duncan MacArthur ’26 and John Win ’25. Congratulations!
Ava’s project including studying Austrian culture through conversation, ethnographic study, and the creation of beautiful watercolors that were displayed in the German Program Lounge in LDC.
Duncan used funding from the Kuennecke Fellowship to complete an internship in Würzburg, Germany, working with a company that is building infrastructure to spread wind energy throughout the country.
For his project, Ostap traveled to Vienna to research Ukrainian art on display in various museums in Vienna and the Ukrainian diaspora in Austria at the turn of the century. He presented his findings in a poster presentation at the Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Rilke, Riley, and John used the funding to support their participation in the Off-Campus Studies program in Vienna for the spring 2024 program.
