Dan started his career in fundraising in 1995 and has a depth of experience in major and planned giving, management, and campaigns. Dan came to Carleton in 2002 and served as a Development Officer during the successful $300 million Breaking Barriers-Creating Connections campaign working with donors primarily in the Bay Area and in the Pacific Northwest.
He served as Associate Vice President for Development from 2015 to 2025. In that role he led Carleton’s development programs which include major gifts, planned giving, and the 25th and 50th milestone reunion programs. From 2015 to 2021 he was part of the leadership team during the Every Carl for Carleton campaign that raised nearly $492 million.
In 2025 he was appointed as Associate Vice President for Principal Gifts. In this role he works closely with the president and senior leadership to build meaningful, long-term relationships with donors who make transformative gifts in support of Carleton’s mission and future.
He earned his B.A. from St. Olaf College in 1995 and his M.A. from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 1999 and has held development roles at Mayo Clinic, St. Olaf College, and Fairview Health Services prior to coming to Carleton. He has served on the boards of Prairie Creek Community School, the St. Olaf Alumni Board, the St. Olaf Fund Board, and is currently on the board of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund. Dan lives in Northfield with his family.
