The Global Seal at Carleton

At Carleton, students can earn the Global Seal of Biliteracy by completing the Avant Assessment STAMP (Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency) 4S test and achieving a score of 5 or higher in each of the four sections: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Based on their scores, students may qualify for the Global Seal at either the Functional Fluency level (score of 5 or higher in all sections) or the Working Fluency level (score of 7 or higher in all sections). Currently, STAMP testing is available to students completing the language sequence (204/205) in Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Additionally, the French and Russian departments offer graduating majors and minors the opportunity to take the STAMP test to earn the Global Seal, recognizing their advanced proficiency as they complete their studies.

If you qualify for the Global Seal of Biliteracy, the Language Center will apply for the certification on your behalf and contact you when your physical certificate has arrived. There is no cost to you for this certification.
