  • Carleton Academic Quiz Team Dominates Tournament

    1 October 1997

    The Carleton College Academic Quiz Team won the team title and two individual honors at an academic quiz tournament in Kansas City, on September 27. Carleton won the tournament by besting a sixteen-team field including representatives of Iowa State University, Washington University (St. Louis),Wichita State University and the Universities of Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

  • Former Carleton President to Give Opening Convocation

    8 September 1997

    David H. Porter returns to Carleton College to deliver Opening Convocation in Skinner Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 10 at 3 p.m. Porter taught classics and music at Carleton for 25 years and was the William H. Laird Professor of Liberal Arts from 1974-1987. He served as Carleton President from 1986-1987 before moving on to become President of
    Skidmore College in July 1987.

  • Carleton and St. Olaf Rank as Top Peace Corp Institutions

    3 January 1997

    Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges, both located in Northfield, Minn., have been ranked fifth and sixth respectively among small schools producing Peace Corps volunteers. The Peace Corps defines small schools and universities as those schools with less than 5,000 undergraduates. In the 36-year history of the Peace Corps, 354 Carleton alumni have joined the organization.
