Apply to the Chemistry Peer Mentoring Program (deadline Wednesday, April 9th)

Mission

This program is designed to connect students interested in chemistry with upper-class chemistry majors. The program goals are to create bonding opportunities within the department, provide students with personal and professional support, help students achieve career and learning goals, and help students navigate the chemistry major and department services. 

Expectations for Mentors

  • Provide guidance and encouragement to your mentee and direct mentee to appropriate resources.
  • Provide constructive feedback regarding mentee’s progress and experience.
  • Be willing to share insights from your own experiences (good and bad).
  • Communicate regularly with your mentee to review their progress and help them work toward identified goals.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information shared within the relationship.
  • Attend a mentor orientation.
  • Attend the department-sponsored mentorship event with your mentee once per term.
  • Meet with your mentee at least twice per term outside of the department-sponsored mentorship event.
  • Contact the faculty program advisor if issues arise.

  • Meet as agreed with your mentor and maintain open communication
  • Look for multiple opportunities and experiences to enhance your learning
  • Be open and responsive to constructive feedback
  • Maintain confidentiality of your relationship
  • Contact the faculty program advisor if issues arise
  • Attend the department-sponsored mentorship event with your mentor once per term

Mentor & Mentee First Meeting

On the fall term, on Wednesday of Week 2, mentors will attend a 1-hour orientation (dinner will be provided) at 6:30 PM, followed by a meeting of mentors and mentees at 7:30 PM (dessert will be provided). On subsequent terms, a meeting of mentors and mentees will take place on Tuesday of week 3.
