LTC Lunch - Fields of Learning: the Arb Across the Curriculum

Tue, October 7, 2025 • 11:45am - 1:00pm (1h 15m) • Weitz 236

In 1926, Carleton President Donald Cowling showed remarkable foresight by initiating the land-purchases that became the basis for our campus’s beloved Arboretum.  Through decades of committed land-management, this patchwork of former agricultural land and degraded woodland has blossomed into the diverse landscape of prairies, forest, and wetlands that we know today. Among its many benefits to the College, the Arb has become a rich site for learning and teaching for courses across the curriculum. As we approach Carleton's year-long celebrations of the Arb's centennial year in 2026-27, join us for a panel exploring the range of pedagogical projects-- both current and only envisioned—in which the Arb is subject, setting, and resource.

Peter Balaam, Associate Professor of English
Nancy Braker, Puzak Family Director of the Cowling Arboretum and Senior Lecturer in Biology
Mark McKone, Towsley Professor of Biology & Research Supervisor of Cowling Arboretum
