Introduction to Quest for Eternity

Through revelation to his living prophet Moses, God declared his purpose in all things.

For behold, this is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. (Moses 1:39)

With that sweeping declaration, the Lord declared that all of his creations, the universe, the earth, everything, exist for one purpose: our obtaining Eternal Life. As we contemplate this, we realize we are important, because we are the focus of God's work. Even though our earth is one speck in the vast cosmos of God's creations, it is of prime importance to those creations. In fact, it is reasonable to assume that all of the stars and planets in the universe exist to support God in his work of helping his children progress to Eternal Life. As we look into the nighttime sky, each star we see is a beacon that God knows of us, a beacon of his love for us, and a beacon that each of us matters to him.

Because of God's love for us, he revealed to inspired men his plan for us. He revealed why he wants us to have Eternal Life, and he revealed how we can obtain that exalted state. Let us open our scriptures and study that plan. We will trace our existence, from our premortal life with him in Heaven, to our life here in mortality, to our life beyond the grave, and finally to joy with him in Eternal Life.

As we follow our quest for Eternal Life, we should be aware that we will encounter opposition. Many people oppose the LDS Church, and they quote Biblical scriptures in attempts to show that Mormonism is false. As we follow our quest, we will study many of the scriptures they use.
